NCLEX-RN® Pharmacology Boot Camp 

Do you have difficulty studying pharmacology? Would you like exercises and strategies to help you study more effectively and directly aligned with the NCLEX-RN® Test Plan? This one-day interactive workshop is designed to decrease student anxiety by providing content review and advanced strategies for pharmacological content.  While this course is targeted to nursing graduates preparing for the NCLEX-RN® it is of benefit to all nursing students who would like strategies to increase their pharmacological knowledge.  It is designed by Dr. Marnie Kramer, a specialist in NCLEX-RN® preparation and remediation.

  • Prior to the boot camp you will be given access to an online pre-test to assess your areas of content strength and weakness
  • When you register for the boot camp you will be given a workbook and the course notes.
  • You will be given 1 year access to our online pharmacology review course after the interactive workshop to address further areas for content review and practice.

0830-0900: NCLEX-RN 2016-2018 Test Plan: Which Drugs Should I Study and Why?

 This introductory session focuses on the Pharmacological and Parental Therapies client need area on the NCLEX-RN 2016-2019 Test Plan. Pharmacological review for the exam is more then just focusing on drugs. This session will highlight the activity statements in this section and outline a study plan for important content areas.

0830-0930: Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics: Using Basic Principles to Answer Exam Questions Correctly.

Understanding the theory behind drug administration is essential for studying pharmacology. This session will hep to bring this theory alive and show you how to use it when answering exam questions. We will complete interactive exercises on receptor function and apply these concepts to differing types of pharmacology questions.

0930-1030: Serious Adverse Event and Drug to Drug Interactions on the NCLEX-RN

An understudied but important area on the NCLEX-RN 2016-2019 Test Plan is that of serious adverse events and drug to drug interactions. Dr. Kramer will highlight common types of serious adverse events from medications and provide exercises integrating these findings into client assessment. She will also present a drug-to-drug interaction algorithm that she utilizes to help answer NCLEX-RN practice questions.

1045-1230:  Systems approach to pharmacological review- Part 1. Common Content Areas and Question Trends.

This lecture will highlight drug therapy using a systems approach.  Participants will use a course workbook and exercises to help move them through important content information. Practice questions will be used to highlight differing concepts.  Cardiac, Respiratory, GI and GU medications will be covered in this session.

1230-1300 Lunch

1300-1430: Systems approach to pharmacological review- Part 2. Common Content Areas and Question Trends

This lecture will highlight drug therapy using a systems approach.  Participants will use a course workbook and exercises to help move them through important content information. Practice questions will be used to highlight differing concepts.  Maternal-Newborn, Anti-infective, CNS, Endocrine and Mental Health medications will be covered in this session.

1430-1445 Break

1445-1545: I have no idea what that drug is!: Drugs you may have not encountered in your clinical practice to date.

This session focuses on common nursing assessments and interventions with drugs that many nursing students do not have an opportunity to work with in clinical practice. This includes common medications given in critical care areas, HIV anti-retroviral medications and anti-neoplastic therapy.

1545-1630: Making a Plan for Success and Moving Forward!

In this last session you will use your results from the pre-test to determine your areas of priority for review.
